Reliance Jio 5g Network Collaborating with Nokia to Develop the Largest and High-speed 5G Network Service Globally

Finnish company Nokia announced that it has been selected as a major supplier by Reliance Jio to supply 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment from its comprehensive AirScale portfolio countrywide in a multi-year deal on Monday.

Reliance Jio, one of the largest telecom operators in India, has announced its plans to roll out 5G services in the country. Jio is one of the first operators in the world to announce plans for 5G services. The company has said that it will start rolling out 5G services by the end of 2020. Jio has also announced that it will be investing Rs. 5,000 crores in the rollout of 5G services.

Nokia said in a statement, “Reliance Jio is India’s number one mobile operator and has one of the largest RAN footprints in the world. ​​Nokia has a long-standing presence in India. This new deal will mean that Nokia is now supplying India’s three largest mobile operators”.

As per Nokia, its “AirScale Osprey portfolio of 8T8R radios uses the same, latest Nokia ReefShark SoC technology as the new massive MIMO antennas. The new AirScale Osprey 8 remote radio with beamforming, delivers a total RF power output of 320 Watts across several operating modes. Combined with a low weight compact form-factor and multiple mounting options this high-performance radio offers deployment flexibility across a wide range of use cases.”

According to the agreement, Nokia will provide from its AirScale portfolio, base stations, high-capacity 5G Massive MIMO antennas, Remote Radio Heads (RRH) to support various spectrum bands, as well as self-organizing network software. In addition to its current 4G network, Reliance Jio plans to establish a standalone 5G network. Reliance Jio 5G will be capable of offering cutting-edge 5G services thanks to the network, including significant machine-to-machine connectivity, network slicing, and ultra-low latency.

5G is the next generation of mobile broadband technology, and it offers faster speeds and lower latency than 4G, including faster data speeds, lower latency, and higher capacity. Jio’s investment of Rs. 5,000 crores in the rollout of 5G services is a big boost for the Indian telecom sector.
