The top places to visit in Thailand

A country that should be on everyone’s bucket list is Thailand. Over 39 million people visited Thailand in 2019, with tourism contributing from 9% to 17.7% of the country’s GDP. A country known for some amazing sites and popular with people of all ages, there’s something for everyone in this beautiful location.

If you’re looking to travel to Thailand sometime soon, or just making some exciting plans on the future, I think these are the top places to visit while in Thailand.

Bangkok

Thailand is certainly known for a popular place to visit for backpackers and draws in people on worldwide adventures from around the world. And if you’re looking for a city that’s associated with Thailand, it’s Bangkok. Located on the delta of the Chao Phraya River, its population is estimated to be over 10 million.

Known for its vibrant street life and food, Bangkok is also the home for some amazing ornate shrines as well as being home to the incredible Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew Temple. If you’re looking for the market experience, visit the Chatuchak Weekend Market – the largest market in Thailand with many different good and food and drink options to enjoy. Or if you like gaming, access some of your favourite games.

Phuket

If you’re travelling with family, it’s well worth checking out Phuket. Through which you can access some of Thailand’s beautiful southern beaches, it is home to many beautiful resorts and delicious food. If you’re looking to do some diving and snorkelling, try visiting Thailand in December.

If you’re not bothered about being there for the rainy season and want to travel on a budget, visit Phuket in May. Either way, it’s a not-to-be-missed experience.

Ko Tarutao

Located at the edge of Malaysia enjoy an island escape at Ko Tarutao Marine National Park. At 26 km long and 11 km wide, this Island has been kept as beautiful as it is as it’s protected by the government. If you’re visiting, you need to pay a small fee which goes towards protecting the island and maintaining the facilities that are offered.

If you’re on the island you can choose to either stay in the camping grounds (you can bring your own tent or hire one) or rent a bungalow. There are only two restaurants on the island and you can enjoy activities like kayaking and biking while there.

This is the perfect option for those looking for a true escape from everyday reality, as there is only simple lodging, no WiFi and limited electricity. Be sure to bring your mosquito repellent and sunscreen too!

Chiang Mai

If you’re visiting Thailand to experience its world-renowned temples, you need to check out Chiang Mai. This historic city is the capital of the north, with monasteries at almost every city block. It’s also a great spot for foodies. Why not try a cooking course while there and learn some tips to bring home with you to serve the delicious food of Chiang Mai to friends and family?

Railay

If you’re the active type that likes a bit of rock climbing, why not visit Railay? These sea cliffs are enjoyed by some of the top climbers in the world. While there, you need to visit some of the stunning white beaches and jungle walks as well as beach-hut accommodation that you can enjoy on the cheap.

The best time to visit is from November to March, when the climate is at its most enjoyable. If you don’t have loads of time to visit, you can enjoy Railway for a few horus during a day trip from Ao Nang or Krabi Town. Although to get the whole experience, it’s well worth staying for a couple of nights.

Isan Region

The largest region of Thailand located in the North East, here you can visit rural towns and enjoy Thailand’s cultural offering. Visit sculpture gardens, cheer on dragon boat races and so much more. For those who love a bit of history, it’s worth visiting to see the regions archaeological wonders including Ban Chiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Khao Yai National Park

The first National Park in Thailand, this is the perfect spot for fans of wildlife – and isn’t far from Bangkok, being accessible by road. In these incredible jungles you can see all kinds of animals, from elephants and monkeys, to bats, Thai tigers and so much more.

If you’re looking for views of the rainforest, try Kao Sok National Park which is located in southern Thailand and enjoy adventure experiences like tubing and kayaking.

Ko Pha-Ngan

If you’re up for a party, Ko Pha-Ngan can’t be missed on a trip to Thailand. The full-moon party capital of the country, and is the hotspot for all-night parties. I n the daytime, get in some recovery time under the palms on one of the many hammocks in the area, while enjoying sandy beaches in the sun.
