Discover the World’s Safest Places in 2024

No doubt, safety is a key factor in people’s choices of where to live, travel, or do business. What’s important here is that safety is by no means an abstract notion. It can be assessed using indicators like violence, crime, conflict, terrorism, and militarization in a particular country. To make the overall picture clearer, take a look at the Global Peace Index (GPI), which ranks 163 countries based on 23 indicators of peace and security.

According to the latest GPI report released in 2023, the world has become less safe and peaceful over the past 14 years, with an average decline of 3.2% in per-country scores. The report also notes that peacefulness and safety have deteriorated for 11 of the past 14 years and that the most significant deterioration occurred in countries in conflict. We are referring to Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo here.

However, not all states are equally unsafe or dangerous. Despite the global challenges and threats, some jurisdictions still managed to maintain or even improve their safety levels. Let’s see what the safest countries in the world are and where you can live and/or work in 2024 without any worries.

The jurisdiction has long maintained a policy of neutrality and non-alignment. It also boasts a low crime rate, a strong rule of law, and a high level of social cohesion and trust. With a small professional army, which is mainly used for defense and humanitarian purposes, Switzerland does not participate in any offensive operations.
