How Social Media leads to Cyber Attacks

Cyber Attacks Blogs | IEMLabs

In recent times, Social media has become an integral part of our lives. It plays a crucial role in connecting people and developing relationships, not only with key influencers and journalists, but also provides a great opportunity to establish customer service by gathering input, answering questions and listening to their feedback. But at the same time, each and every information and photo that we share with people on these social media platforms can be misused by hackers and can act as a major key to design targeted attacks.

With the help of Social media, it becomes extremely easy for attackers to run several phishing scams and extract personal information from the users. There are several instances where hackers have leveraged social media for their malicious intent. This involves creation of fake yet convincing Twitter profiles as security researchers to extract security information, impersonating real HR employees and sending fake job offers to job seekers on LinkedIn in an attempt to lure them into giving up their financial credentials etc. So it is high time for all social media users to be extremely careful about their privacy settings in order to minimize social engineering attacks.

The question is why are we suddenly talking about Cyber Security and all this stuff? With the development of technology, more and more companies are shifting their business to Digital World which is resulting in the increase in Cyber Crimes.
