Z Fold 7 Review: The Foldable That Finally Beats the iPhone

Hi Readers! Being a longtime iPhone user means that shifting to Android comes as a giant leap. But at the moment I unleashed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and said aloud “Hello Fold!!!”, I became desperate to give a review to all my fellows who are iphone lovers at this point in time.  I knew this was not just any phone-it was the complete redefinition of productivity, entertainment, and design. Compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, which I had been using on a daily basis, the Z Fold 7 just felt like a much more powerful and versatile device.

First Impressions: Slim, Light, and Futuristic

Z Fold 7 is the thinnest and lightest fold that Samsung has ever made, and it shows. It feels rather slim in hand and was a lot thinner than Fold 6, and hence a little more refined in terms of design. Coming from an iPhone 16 Pro, where solidity, premium nature, and a rather traditional approach were the hallmarks, Z Fold 7 began to feel quite futuristic with the foldable form factor.

Holding it gave me a feeling of carrying one device, half smartphone, half mini-tablet.

Better Multitasking with Foldable Design

Here’s the big one! Multitasking really is a burden on the iPhone 16 Pro. Views of more than 20 videos daily and providing feedback requires constant switching between apps. On the Z Fold 7, the 8-inch LTPO AMOLED display is worth buying.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro has amazing features, but it stays limited to the flat-screen domain. When it comes to the Z Fold 7, I experience:

  • 8-inch AMOLED display is with the package 1-120Hz, HDR10+, 2600 nits peak brightness.
  • Split-screen multitasking: Opening two apps side by side without the need for constant swiping.
  • Larger front display: Finally usable for typing and quick replies, unlike the narrow Fold 5/6 screens.

It was the ultimate for me to be changed by this. I usually have to review more than 20 daily video projects, so I turn on a video on one side and type notes on the other side at the same time, which the iPhone is not able to do.

Performance: Variations between Snapdragon 8 Elite and A18 Pro

In theory, the iPhone 16 Pro is the most capable machine with its A18 Pro Bionic chip, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite within the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 absolutely matches and even edges it out a bit, at least in multi-core benchmark scores.

  • Geekbench Multi-core: Snapdragon 8 Elite ~10072
  • Geekbench Multi-core: Slightly lower score for A18 Pro

The Z Fold 7 is truly on another level for gaming, flaunting a whopping 8-inch display. From high-end gaming that’s wholly immersive to casual game playing that’s just as smooth, the Fold edges ahead in terms of multimedia and games, whereas Apple is doing well performance-wise. The edge goes to the Fold, being the larger and brighter display (2600 nits peak, HDR10+).

Battery and Charging

Surprisingly, battery life remained an area for the Fold 7. A 4400mAh juice pack with 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging lasted for the whole day with heavy usage.

The slight edge for battery optimization rests with the iPhone 16 Pro, but with the bigger screen-factor drawback in the Fold 7, I’m willing to charge a bit more if productivity offsets the charge cycle.

Apple is more efficient with the battery, but Samsung gives you a good mix of power and versatility.

AI That Actually Feels Useful

Siri feels polished and Intuos AI features on iPhone 16 Pro do too, but really, they’re rudimentary and limiting. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 with Galaxy AI integration really makes the device smarter:

Live call translation & transcription → I can take calls in different languages, and the phone transcribes/ translates on the fly on-device.

Note Assist → Takes long notes, meeting minutes, or emails and boils them down to just the key takeaways.

Generative text & smart replies → Samsung bakes this into One UI itself, while Apple still makes you rely on third-party apps.

On-device AI for security → Sensitive data stays on the phone and is processed there instead of in the cloud.

This is the single biggest reason I left the iPhone. The Z Fold 7 feels like a productivity partner, whereas the iPhone still just feels like a phone.

Photography: 200MP vs. Apple Restraint

To be fair, Apple has been consistent in terms of photography and videography; the Galaxy Z Fold 7 just threw me off with its 200MP primary camera.

Details & sharpness: The Fold 7 has more detail capturing legacy than the iPhone 16 Pro in both daylight and low light.

Portraits: Edge detect

As Samsung is more focused on still photos than cinematic videos, it can be considered the winner in this aspect.

Performance By Hardware

Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite (Geekbench multi-core ~10072) vs. Apple A18 Pro Bionic (slightly lower). Samsung comes out on top with the extra power for gaming and multitasking.

RAM & Storage: The RAM can be up to 16GB and the storage can go up to 1TB, which are both very far from the fixed options of iPhones.

Build: Armor Aluminum frame, Titanium underneath UTG glass—performance after six generations has been redefined. Rugged but still slim.

Galaxy Fold Price & Buying Options

The current Galaxy Fold price variation is as follows (as per Indian reference):

  • 256 GB|12 GB RAM – ₹174,999
  • 512 GB|12 GB RAM – ₹186,999
  • 1 TB|16 GB RAM – ₹216,999

Perks of buying:

You can plan to buy this Fold by keeping in mind of the following options.

  • EMI starting at ₹15,222.89
  • Exchange offer → you can get it for as low as ₹99,999
  • Reward points worth ₹3,500
  • Pair-up deals saving up to ₹18,400

Considering it is a device that doubles as a phone + tablet, the price of the premium version seems to be acceptable.

Final Verdict: Why Fold Beats Flat

Choosing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 over the iPhone 16 Pro was a move toward the future, not merely out of curiosity. The Fold 7 reimagines what a phone can be, while the iPhone is a masterpiece. The Fold 7 feels like a productivity machine in my pocket thanks to its next-generation Galaxy AI, a 200MP camera that dominates still photography, and a foldable design that makes multitasking effortless.

The Galaxy Fold is more expensive, but the experience is also more costly. I can state with confidence after using it that this is a lifestyle upgrade rather than merely a phone upgrade. For me, the decision was obvious: Samsung has the innovation advantage presently, while Apple may have tradition.
