The multi-storefront payments settings page has been announced recently. The feature allows many unique payment provider configurations to be created per currency. It also allows you to control the payment options shown in separate channels effectively. This guide aims to provide all the information related to the multi-storefront payment setup and why it is important.
Payment Method Configuration
You can now control payment settings for all channels from the Payments Settings page of your store. Merchants may now designate which channel each configuration appears on and build several settings for each provider and currency.
You have more control over the payment alternatives that are shown to your customers because of this flexibility, which allows you to provide payment methods that are specific to both currency and channel.
You can also make setups using separate accounts for the same currency if your provider allows multiple accounts. To keep your finances distinct, for instance, you can create two configurations, each utilizing a different provider account, and assign one configuration to each of your B2B and B2C stores.
How Does It Work?
A payment provider can have different payment configurations that enable the same payment provider to be implemented many times with the help of different merchant accounts, currencies, and settings in a single place. After creating a payment configuration, it will be manually assigned to their desired channels. Configurations are not assigned automatically, which prevents them from appearing on undesired storefronts. To better understand, here are some possible use cases for payment configurations:
Multi-region:
- Use a merchant account with a payment provider to serve different geographical locations in different currencies.
- Use many merchant accounts with a single payment provider to serve different geographical areas in different currencies
- Use a merchant account per provider with different payment providers to serve different geographical locations in different currencies.
Multi-brand:
- Use a merchant with a payment provider to serve different brands in the same area with the same currency
- Use different merchant accounts with a payment provider to serve different brands in the same geographical area with the same currency.
- Use different merchant accounts with many payment providers to serve different brands in different currencies.
Multi-segment:
- Use a merchant account with a payment provider to serve many segments in the same geography in the same currency.
- Use many merchant accounts with many payment providers to serve different segments in the same geographical area in the same currency.
What Do You Need?
There are some requirements to meet:
- Your store must be based on a multi-storefront
- You must have Manage Payments and Edit Channels consents toggled on your user account to manage payment methods and configurations
- You need more than a channel set up on your store to create different payment configurations
- You should have the latest version of a supported payment provider
Multi-storefront Payment Setup
- To begin with, navigate to the Settings> Payments
- Multi-storefront payment settings are turned on from the banner at the top of the page by clicking ‘Switch to the new Payment Settings Page’. You can disable this to access previous options at any time.
- After enabling this option, the page will display all the connected payment options and their individual payment configurations.
How to Add New Payment Configurations?
- Establish a new configuration by choosing ‘Add Payment Configuration’. If your provider supports different payment options, you can repeat these steps to include more configurations per currency.
- On the next page, choose a currency from the dropdown menu, then find the Additional Providers where offline payment methods, Digital Wallets, and Online Payment Methods will appear.
- Click Add next to your preferred payment method
- On the payment configuration page, you can update the chosen currency and highlight a configuration name. Type in any requisite account details like API keys and enable any preferred provider-specific settings.
- For separate provider setup details, check Available Payment Gateways, which includes a list of payment gateways and URLs to other documentation.
- After completing these, click Save.
How to Manage Storefront Channel Visibility?
- After establishing configurations, you can find them on the payment settings page
- Keep in mind that configurations will not automatically appear on storefronts but they are done manually. This helps in preventing them from appearing on the unknown channels.
- Press Manage Channel Visibility and choose it from the drop-down list to assign a payment configuration to a storefront.
- On the payment configuration screen, check the box adjacent to the ones you wish to appear on this storefront, then choose ‘Assign’.
- Then, you can see the assigned configuration to the storefronts on the payments page just by clicking the Visible on # channels menu.
- You can easily edit or delete the configuration from the Action menu list.
- You can also check the payment configurations and manage their visibility from the separate storefront channel settings by clicking on the Channels> storefront name> payments
Summary
Multi-storefront payment settings enable you to configure the payment methods that show up on the different storefronts. This is beneficial for multi-brand, multi-region or multi-segment use cases where different payment methods are displayed per storefront. You can make sure that customers see the most appropriate payment options depending on their currency and context by optimizing the checkout process for each channel with this increased flexibility.
