Lucid Motors launched an off-road version of the Lucid Gravity SUV just a few hours after refuting the report that claimed a sale of only 9 luxury EVs for Lucid Motors in the first six months of the year. The off-road concept entails redesigning front and rear fascias, better approach and departure angles, a widened track, increased ride height, and custom wheels with all-terrain tires. However, it was the forceful renunciation by the automaker of Automotive News’ report that it had sold just 9 Lucid Gravity SUVs in the first six months of production, which gained much attention. Let’s delve into the matter and understand what Gravity Electric SUV brings to the table.
Did Lucid Really Sell Only 9 SUVs?
S&P Global Mobility reported that the Lucid Gravity SUV received only 9 customers in the first six months. S&P tracks registration data to support the claim, collecting information from government databases. With every purchase of a vehicle, registration for use is being done. This is how they tracked the sales. However, a quick review of social media postings revealed that the numbers are not credible. Their five-minute search through social media led to the 10 owners who received the delivery before July. The differences in the figures could be due to the high number of late deliveries or reporting problems.
However, something more important is that the company claimed it has delivered in around 3-digit range, which is an extremely vague figure. The vehicle that was expected to receive great numbers of sales, left somewhere below 1000. This suggests that the customers are either not interested or unable to get a new Lucid Gravity. The automaker does not divide its sales figures between the Lucid Gravity and its Air Sedan, but the second-quarter delivery figures show a list of 6,418 vehicle sales. The reports by S&P suggest that there were 4780 Air registrations, which is better than the past year. This left 1629 vehicles unregistered.
Lucid Denies the Rumors
Undeniably, Lucid Gravity is an outstanding electric SUV that can drive up to 450 miles on a single charge and offers more interior space than the Ford Explorer. It is also faster than many sports cars, with more than 828 hp. However, the claims by Automotive News report about the nine registrations of the Lucid Gravity in the first six months of the market caused a buzz.
Nick Twork, the head of communications, responded with an email, stating that the report is ‘completely untrue’. Twork also stated that a quick review of social media postings from the customers revealed that the numbers claimed by the report are not true. Even though Lucid does not clarify the numbers, Gravity deliveries are within a 3-digit range, as noted by Twork.
In the next six months of the year, Lucid Motors expects the Gravity SUV to contribute to the majority of the production and deliveries.
The EV manufacturer expects a significant increase in production over the next six months. On the second-quarter earnings, the company’s CEO Marc Winterhoff stated that after mitigating the severe supply chain issues like the industry-wide magnet shortage, the company has started to boost the Lucid Gravity manufacturing.
The CEO also noted that their daily order rate has almost doubled after the launch of Gravity models in its studios, which feature test drives. If the company did not take immediate actions, it would have to stop production in the second quarter. However, the company, instead, chose to product more than 6000 vehicles in the second quarter.
In an interview, the CEO of Lucid reported that Lucid Motors now has the raw materials, earth magnets, and licensing for the rest of the year. The company has dropped its production goal for this year from 20,000 to between 18,000 and 20,000 units. The company highlighted the changing market as a reason for the new range. The EV manufacturer also entered into a partnership with Uber and Nuro to introduce 20,000 Lucid Gravity robotaxis in the next six years. Uber is expected to invest around 300 million USD as part of the partnership. At the same time, Lucid Air remains the best-selling luxury electric sedan in the United States. The Air outperformed the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and many gas models in the first quarter of 2025.
EV Motor, Power & Performance
Lucid Gravity SUV comes with double electric motors and basic all-wheel drive; a rear-wheel drive base model can be launched afterward. Similarly to Air Sedan, Gravity will be offered in Touring guise, probably with 620 horsepower, and in a Grand Touring trim with 828 horsepower. Dream Edition model provides 1070 horsepower, and a great-performing Sapphire model with as much as 1234 horsepower may come up in the future. The basic level model, or Pure, may come with around 480 horsepower. An air-spring suspension is basic, and a rear-wheel steering system is an option. The test drive of the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring reported that acceleration is brisk and the ride is greatly controlled.
Interior and Comfort
Lucid is always known for its focus on luxury, and Lucid Gravity stands on its claims. It has a spacious cabin which is designed in fancy, modern-looking materials. It has two and three-row interior layouts, and the latter can be found in a second-row bench or a pair of captain’s chairs. Although the interior design is based on the Air Sedan, Lucid Gravity is great for a family of two. The second and third-row seats fold flat and interestingly capture a little space when stowed. This creates a cavernous and minivan-like feel for the users. A new center console between the front seats has reconfigurable bins and cubbies. It also comes with a pair of picnic tables with default charging ports installed in the front seatbacks for rear-seat passengers. There is a helpful front-trunk storage area to accommodate the rarely-used items.
Overall, the Lucid Gravity models give a premium experience to the users with stylish and modern interior design and great comfort that compete with high-end models of the competitors.
Charging and Battery Life
Though the Sedan sibling features a driving range up to 516 miles per charge, with around 112.0-kWh battery life, the Gravity Grand Touring is estimated to offer a 450-mile range. This is far stronger than the most efficient Rivian R1S or Tesla Model X. Similar to Lucid Air, Lucid Gravity can charge up quickly through DC quick-charging. The company claims that it can add up to 200 miles of range to the battery life within just 15 minutes on a 250 KW connection.
What’s Ahead for 2026?
Lucid Gravity is a new brand added to the portfolio for 2025 and joins the outstanding Air sedan in showrooms worldwide. The price for the Lucid Gravity starts at $81,550 and goes as high as $141,550 based on the trim and options. However, we suspect a low-cost Pure trim to be added afterwards. The Touring, Grand Touring, and Dream Edition trims will be provided in 2025. The Touring is expected to be quite premium and come with high levels of comfort and convenience.
