The report will be in HTML format, which shows battery usage data, capacity history, and life estimates. If a battery replacement is needed, the report will provide guidance beforehand. How to generate a Report of a Laptop’s battery in Windows 10?

In doing so, you will need Windows PowerShell, a default command-line tool that you may have never used before. A simple way to access it is to right-click on the start icon and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the appeared menu. A pop-up window may require permission to make changes to your device. Click on ‘Yes’.

The blue PowerShell command window will appear, allowing you to enter prompts to automate tasks within Windows 10. Enter the following command into the PowerShell window and then click ‘Enter’.

powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”

The first section of the code generates an HTML file that contains the report on the laptop’s battery life. The second section in quotes shows where the file is stored on your desktop and what it will be named. For example, a file named ‘Battery-report.html’ will be stored in the C drive. Now you can safely opt out of PowerShell. 

Launch file explorer and access the C drive. Then you will find the battery life report saved in HTML format. Open the file using the default web browser. 

How to generate a Report of a Laptop’s battery in Windows 11?

The process is almost the same in Windows 11. Right-click the Start button, but select Windows Terminal (Admin) instead. Tick ‘Yes’ when a pop-up window appears to grant permission to make changes to your device. This will launch Windows Terminal, a tabbed terminal emulator that runs PowerShell, Command Prompt, and other command-line programs. PowerShell will launch by default. Now, enter the following command and press Enter. 

powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”

After entering the command, PowerShell will determine the name of the generated battery life report and where it has been saved on your system. You can find it here with a name ‘battery-report.html and it is saved to the C drive. You can now opt out of Windows Terminal. Now open File Explorer and hit the OS (C:) entry under This PC. The battery report will be automatically saved in this folder in HTML format. Now open the file in your default web browser. 

How to Check the Battery Report?

The re[prt will highlight the health of your laptop battery, how it works, and how much time it may last. At the top of the report, you will find some basic information about the system along with battery specifications. 

Under Recent Usage, you will find when the laptop ran on battery power or was plugged into AC power. The battery usage section monitors every drain over the past three days. The Usage History section also delivers a comprehensive report on the battery usage. 

The Battery Capacity History section displays the changes in capacity over time. On the right, you will find Design Capacity, or how much the battery was designed to support. At the same time, the left side includes Full Charge Capacity, where you can find the battery’s current capacity on a full charge, which may decrease over time with device use.

This takes you to the Battery Life Estimates. On the right, you can find the time it will last on the basis of the design capacity, and on the left, you will find how long it actually lasts. A present, final battery-life estimation will be at the bottom of the report.
