There are many benefits that the Central Government has implemented for the benefit of the workers. One such benefit is the E-shram Card. The E-Shram Portal was introduced in August 2021, for the better execution of various Social Security Schemes, especially for the unorganized sector workers. The members who will be registered in the portal will get the E-Shram Card and will be eligible to enjoy the benefits it will provide. The E-Shram Scheme has been organized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The primary aim of this scheme is to provide social security to the workers who work in unorganized sectors.
What is an E-Shram Card?
E-Shram Card is a Card that is issued to the workers who have registered themselves in the E-shram Portal which is eshram.gov.in and the card will have 12 digit UAN Number. The workers who have self-registered and use the E-Shram portal need not apply for any other Government Social Welfare Program individually.
In other words, it is a Centralized database linked with Aadhar. It is primarily used in delivering social and security benefits and also ensured the portability of the social security and welfare benefits to workers working in an unorganized sector.

The registration process for E-Shram Card Online:

- To register, first, visit the website register.eshram.gov.in.
- Click on “Register on e-SHRAM” which is available on the right side of the page.
- Then, on the Self-registration page, enter the mobile number linked with your Aadhar Card, Captcha.
- Click the option “Send OTP”.
- After entering the OTP you will find the registration form.
- Enter the personal, bank, educational, and address details.
- After filling up the detail, Choose the option Previews Self-Declaration.
After following these, the registration process will be complete.
Procedure to download E-Shram card:
Let’s look at the process of downloading e-shram card.
- Go to the online portal.
- Click on “Register”, on the homepage.
- After that enter your mobile number and Captcha Code.
- Along with this enter EPFO and ESIC member status.
- Once entered, click on send OTP.
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
- The next step is to fill in all the details that are asked.
- In addition to filling in, you will also have to enclose all the documents.
- Then click on download UAN Card.
What are the eligibility criteria for E-Shram Portal?
The eligibility that one needs to fulfill are:
- You cannot be an income taxpayer to apply.
- Only applicable to citizens of unorganized sector.
- Members of EPFO and ESIC are not eligible to apply for this scheme.
- You must be 16 to 59 years of age to apply.

- Prime Minister Svanidhi Yojana: Under this scheme, the shopkeepers who put handcarts and ready in the market will get to have an interest-free loan.
What are the Disadvantages of the e-shram card?
There is no harm in getting e-shram card but people who are looking for jobs, studying or preparing for Government jobs, or people who already have EPFO and ESIC Card, if they get e-shram cards then, they might face certain issues in terms of getting a job, face problems in withdrawing money deposited in EPFO, they can also face problem in getting their PF money after joining and can also face problem using ESIC card.
These problems will not always happen. However, there is a chance of their occurrence . Hence, it would be better to stay vigilant against these probable issues. People who are studying or working in an organized sector are advised not to apply for e-shram card.E-shram facility has been given for the benefit of people who work in unorganized sectors. The E-shram scheme is an initiative by the Central Ministry to give benefits to the workers who are deprived of many facilities which they must get as workers. On the other hand, people working in organized sectors are likely to get many facilities and do not need the assistance of e-shram cards to reap the facilities.
