Why Consider Ethical Hacking as a Profession?

Ethical hacking or White Hat hacking benefits organizations by identifying vulnerabilities in the network security system and patching these security loopholes so malicious hackers don’t exploit them.

Organizations hire ethical hackers to try to hack their computer systems while abiding by the rules or laws set by the organization and the country of operation. Several companies also train one of their employees to take up the role of an ethical hacker.

Ethical hackers are mostly geniuses who like to hack systems without causing harm to any organization. They find hacking to be fun. At times, they don’t mind earning a few bucks and may demand to find a loophole in an organization’s computer network and fix them – such hackers are often known as Grey Hat hackers.

Ethical Hacking is Fascinating

Ethical hackers play a significant role in securing systems and data. Moreover, the world of ethical hacking is fascinating. For example, we all are familiar with the World Wide Web or www, and the person who discovered it was Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee but little do we know that he was also a hacker during his student days. Lee was barred from accessing university computers after he and one of his friends were found trying to hack in and gain access to restricted areas.

World-famous White Hat hacker Kevin Mitnick began his journey of hacking as a Black hat hacker. He grabbed the attention of the government when he hacked into the North American Defence Command in 1982, and later during the 80’s, he also accessed three central telephone offices in New York City and all the phone switching centers in California. However, later he mended his ways and now works as a consultant for not just top companies but also for the FBI.

Rewarding Career

Taking up ethical hacking course as a career can be extremely rewarding. Businesses take cybersecurity seriously, as they want to protect their data and customers’ personal information. By doing this, they are also securing their competitive edge over other organizations in their industry that haven’t invested in protecting their data. Businesses are ready to pay good wages to knowledgeable, ethical hackers.

The earnings of an ethical hackeron an average in United States as of June 2022 isapproximately $103,866 but their salary range is usually between $92,654 and $118,497. Many factors influence the salary of an ethical hacker, including education, experience, certifications, etc.
