WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook suffered a global outage on the night of 19th March, Friday. Users were unable to send or receive messages. Some of them could not even log in to WhatsApp Web. According to Downdetector (a site that monitors outages by collating status reports from users and some other sources)outage took place at around 10:40PM in India and prevented WhatsApp users from sending or receiving messages on the service for more than an hour.
According to Whatsapp, the service was down only for 45 minutes. Though the company has not revealed the exact reason behind the outage, however, it acknowledged the fact that there was a technical glitch. Apart from Whatsapp, users were also unable to use Facebook and Instagram. Downdetector showed that around 57 percent Facebook users reported about total blackout and 29 percent were not even able to access the social media app.
At this moment, there are not many other details about why the service was down, but this is not the first time in recent months that Facebook has been down. Just a few months ago, all Facebook services were down for several hours in December 2020.
