In a recent report released by McAfee, mainly based cybercrime activities, it is stated that 419 cyber threats are taking place per minute in the second Quarter (Q2) of 2020. Amid the pandemic situation, when people are getting accustomed to work from home situation, there has been a rapid growth in the rate of cyber attacks. Raj Samani, the chief scientist at McAfee said that it has been quite easy for the cybercriminals to attack the famous enterprises through their employees who have been working online either from their home or other remote places.
McAfee examined the Cybercrime activities related to malwares and found out there has been an overall growth of 11.5% in new malware samples. Q2 of 2020 experienced new cyber-security challenges with advanced and innovative threats.
In previous quarter there has 26% growth of coinmining malware which further increased by 25% of Q1 in Q2. Though the growth of ransomware remained steady with respect to Q1, there was 7% growth in new IoT malware. With an overall 419 cybercrime cases per minute in Q2 of 2020, there has been an increment of 12% as compared to Q1. However the Cyber security teams are considering the issue with utmost importance to do the needful at earliest convenience in order to prevent all these cyber-threats.
