Spike in cyberattacks against hospitals, medical companies

Research shows that cyberattacks against the healthcare organizations have doubled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In the annual report released by IBM they have analyzed all the data from past few years and tracked the evolution of new threats, malware development, and cyberattacks. Analysis shows that most of the cyber attacks in recent past have targeted healthcare organizations fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Researchers found out that the rate of cyberattacks targeting healthcare sectors have doubled in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospitals, pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical companies, and energy firms involved in the COVID-19 supply chain have been the prime targets of cybercriminals.

Over the course of 2020, ransomware became the most popular attack method, claiming 23% of all incidents as victims were more likely to pay up the huge ransom demand to carry out healthcare works smoothly. So it is evident that the pandemic has reshaped the critical infrastructure of cyberattacks with attackers using several new and advanced attack tactics.
